Today’s Garbage, Tomorrow’s Power
The Region of Peel plans to build a new Energy Recovery Centre that will take the garbage that’s left over after we reduce, reuse, recycle and compost our household waste and use it as a resource—a source of energy—that can be used to power homes and businesses. When it’s developed, our Centre will process at least 300,000 tonnes of garbage each year creating enough power for 27,000 homes (based on an average household consumption of 12,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year).
